Surface Finish Service
Your parts are not truly finished until they have passed through our professional surface finishing process. Whether a single prototype or batch production, we have everything you need to get your product a perfect surface finish.
About Surface Finish
Surface finish is applied to parts after they have been machined to create a unique surface layer to meet the hardness, chemical resistance, and appearance requirements of the products. It depends on material properties and the application of the part.
Typical Surface Finishes For CNC Machining Parts
“As machined” has a surface roughness arround 125 μin and the sharp edges have been removed and parts are deburred.
Anodizing can improve the corrosion resistance of aluminum alloys, increase the surface hardness and wear resistance of aluminum alloys, and have a good appearance after coloring treatment.
Powder coating is a type of coating that is applied as a free-flowing, dry powder. Unlike traditional liquid paint, which is applied with an evaporating solvent, powder coating is typically applied electrostatically and cured with heat or ultraviolet light.
Black oxide, or blackening, is a conversion coating for ferrous metals, stainless steel, copper and copper-based alloys, zinc, powdered metals, and silver solder. It produces an oxide film on the metal surface to add modest corrosion resistance, improve appearance, and reduce light reflection. Black oxide must be treated with oil or wax to provide maximum corrosion resistance.
Bead blasting produces a smooth, matte-textured surface, and sharp edges can be broken and deburred for safe handling. Bead blasting can also improve the mechanical strength, wear resistance and corrosion resistance of parts.
Electroplating is the process of coating an object in a layer of metal using electrodeposition. Electroplating is widely used to improve the surface qualities of metals, such as resistance to abrasion and corrosion, lubricity, reflectivity, and electrical conductivity. Electroplating can also make metals look better.
Polishing is a technique for creating a smooth and shiny surface by rubbing it or applying a chemical treatment. The process creates a surface with significant specular reflection, but it can also reduce diffuse reflection in some materials.
Brushing is a surface treatment process in which an abrasive belt is used to draw marks and lines on the surface of products to achieve a decorative texture.
Typical Surface Finishes for Injection Molded Parts
Full Gloss is an Grade-A finish made by polishing, and it creates glossy surfaces on injection molded parts.
SPI Standard: A1, A2, A3
Semi-Gloss is a grade-B finish options made by grit sandpaper, and it creates a slightly rougher finish than grade-A parts.
SPI Standard: B1, B1, B3
Matte is a Grade-C finish options made bygrit sanding stones, and it creates a non-glossy surface texture.
SPI Standard: C1, C2, C3
D grade texture finishes is a much rougher finishes are made by abrasive blasting with sand or glass beads.
SPI Standard: D1, D1, D3
